Quartz is made from one of the hardest minerals on Earth. Quartz countertops are durable as granite for kitchen countertops. They come in a wide variety of colors, and some mimics the veining looks of granite or marble. But unlike granite slabs, these slabs are engineered in a factory. They use 93-95% natural quartz combined with polyester resins to bind it and color. The resins help make the counters stain and scratch resistant—and nonporous, therefore they never need to be sealed. Nowadays, there are many manufacturers/ brands to choose from.
Why choose quartz?
It is low-maintenance.
Unlike natural stone or wood, it never needs to be sealed. Just wipe with mild soapy water and a soft sponge for daily cleaning. Quartz is stain, heat, and scratch resistance. Avoid scouring pads, which can dull the surface and harsh chemicals because those can break down the bonds between the quartz and resins.
It is antimicrobial.
Resin binders make quartz counters nonporous therefore; stains, odor-causing bacteria, mold and mildew can't penetrate the surface.
Comes with warranty.
Depending on which manufacturer you choose, they offer between 15 years, 25 years to Limited Lifetime warranty on their products.
